Duff welcomes Charles Kennedy to Eastern England

The Eastern Region of the Liberal Democrats will be holding its annual Regional Conference in The Maltings, Ely on Saturday, 26th February 2000.

This year the Liberal Democrat Leader, Charles Kennedy MP, will deliver the keynote speech at the Conference.

Welcoming Charles Kennedy to the Eastern Region conference Andrew Duff, Liberal Democrat Euro-MP for Eastern England said;

"Charles Kennedy will find a party that is leading the debate on making Eastern England one of the top regions of Europe, and playing a major role at all levels of politics. "

Ahead of the Conference, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Rt. Hon. Charles Kennedy MP said;

"I am delighted to have been invited to address The Eastern Region Conference, especially in Liberal Democrat run Ely.

"This will be my first speech to Eastern Region as Leader.

"Since 1997, it has been a story of breakthrough for the Liberal Democrats.

"We have made great gains in the Region and now have our first MP and first MEP, as well as growing power in Local Government.

Welcoming Charles Kennedy to Ely will be the Leader of East Cambridgeshire District Council Cllr. Charlotte Cane said;

"I am delighted to be able to welcome Charles Kennedy to Liberal Democrat run East Cambridgeshire.

"When he visits the Broad Street site in Ely we will be able to show how the new Liberal Democrat Council is delivering the party's commitment to open government and consultation locally."
