Lib Dems urge vote for reform

May 2, 2005 2:00 PM

Liberal Democrats in the East of England are urging voters to turn out in large numbers on Thursday to vote for Britain's 'progressive alternative'.

Andrew Duff MEP, who has been campaigning for the party across the region, says that the Lib Dems have fought a good campaign and are in good heart. In a statement today he says:-

"People are responding very positively to the Liberal Democrat message. A vote for the Lib Dems everywhere is a vote for real change in Britain, for an alternative opposition party that is committed to the deep reform of our country.

"We expect to hold our two seats (Colchester and North Norfolk) and to make several other gains. The tide is with us in Cambridge and Watford and in their surrounding seats. In places where we do well in local government, like Norwich and Luton, we are set to match local success with impressive parliamentary swings.

"People across the region are telling us that the Labour government has let down many of its original supporters, and that the Tories seem more and more unfit to govern this country.

"Friday morning promises to throw up some surprises in the East of England - and the Lib Dem vote will be significantly increased on the 2001 poll, with gains in terms of MPs and county councillors."
