Andrew Duff, Lib Dem MEP for the East of England, will join a demonstration in Brussels this evening to commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall twenty years ago. A mock Checkpoint Charlie has been created outside the European Parliament, with real portions of the Wall erected. AD says:
"It is vital we remember the wonderful night in 1989 when the Wall was pushed over. Europeans are now mostly united. Demarcation lines and armed frontiers are now mostly a thing of the past. The European Union has been a huge success to projecting stability, security and prosperity eastwards in Europe. The entry into force of the Lisbon treaty on 1 December will further deepen our post-national democracy. We must continue our work."
